Dr. Sue Recommends...
The holidays are a perfect time to get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and visit The Lady Killigrew Café at the Montague Mill. This cozy spot—with its huge, sunny windows, overstuffed chairs and well loved books—overlooks a rushing stream, making it the perfect place to sit back and relax with friends. They use many organic and locally grown foods in their delicious fare at very reasonable prices. A truly unique experience!
Dr. Sue has finally learned to cook, thanks to Chef Max! This young man runs a wonderful gourmet restaurant (also at the Montague Mill!) and periodically offers a fantastic series of cooking classes, complete with dinner (that you help make yourself!). The classes are a huge hit with attendees, and quickly sell out. For menus and dates, check out Chef Max at www.montaguenightkitchen.com
Live Jazz! Did you know that the valley is teeming with talented jazz musicians? Find them performing live in a venue near you! Monday nights at Amherst Brewing Company; Wednesdays and Fridays at Sunderland's Blue Heron Restaurant; Thursdays at The Delaney House, Route 5 in Holyoke; Friday nights at The Basement in Northampton; and Sunday night at The Night Kitchen in Montague. Check on line or call to confirm times, but do get out there and support your local musicians!
Back to Basses! Dr. Sue is playing double bass again, and now she's learning to play jazz! Her jazz theory/performance teacher, Ed Byrne, is a world-class jazz performer, who just happens to live in Greenfield! A master teacher, Byrne has a wonderful series of books he's written to teach jazz improvisation in a very unique and logical way. Looking to connect to your creative muse?
